“It has got drama” – Esme
This was another of my self-drafted patterns. After the disaster of the previous week I was hoping that this pattern wouldn’t go the same way! I decided to use a scuba fabric, which is not a traditional flamenco skirt material. It had a good stretch to it so this should give me a good fit.
When drafting the pattern it took me ages to get the flounce just right so that it lay horizontal to the ground, this took a lot of trial and error, but I got there in the end. Initially there was going to be a double layer on each flounce and then turned so that you wouldn’t see the seam. However this made the skirt way too heavy so I just used one layer and did a rolled hem on the overlocker to finish the edge.

I had metres of fabric, and I think I may have ordered way too much, but it’s best to have too much than too little! Esme mentioned about interfacing the waistband, she was dropping a massive hint here, which I didn’t pick up on! I should have interfaced it as I had to pull the waistband up when my model was standing at the end of the catwalk. I’ve also no idea why I put such a large zip in, especially as it wasn’t done that well! It would have saved me some time if I left it out and it was just pulled up.
I liked the combination of colours, but it did look quite plain against the others. I think I concentrated far too much on trying to get the flounces to sit right and not enough on the overall design. I was in danger again this week, and I don’t know how but I managed to get by, I think, thanks to the Turno blouse.
