For the made to measure dungarees challenge I went for a traditional denim fabric, which is hard wearing and ideal for children’s clothing. I chose a mixture of mustard and blue denim to jazz it up a bit. I thought it would be a good idea to personalise the dungarees and get Jamie, my model, to draw a picture on the front pocket with some fabric pens. He superbly drew a bee, which couldn’t be more fitting!

I had practised beforehand at home, so I was fairly confident with this challenge. Liz had chosen the same pattern as me so we kept checking in with each other on our progress.

For the first time I used a twin needle to do the top stitching. Blue thread on the mustard fabric, and mustard thread on the blue fabric. I had to make sure I had everything done in one colour before moving onto the next as I didn’t want to waste time re-threading the needle constantly.

When putting in the rivet buttons I got onto the floor to give me plenty of space to hammer them in. The first couple didn’t go in properly but I persevered and I finally got two perfectly placed buttons!

Overall I got some good comments, I think however that the fabric I chose was quite plain, and there were many other dungarees that stood out because of better fabric choices. Ali’s was superb, the whole ensemble was great, the way she accessorised her dungarees was so effective. Top marks to my model Jamie for that drawing though!
